a week in review: Drake Concert at the South Street Seaport

I'm sure by now you all have heard about and seen the melee that was called a "Drake Concert." I was super excited for this day - I have been waiting for the June 15th for three reasons: Thank Me Later, iPhone pre-order, and the Drake concert. I, unlike many others, patiently waited for the release of Drake's highly anticipated debut album. I refused to listen or download any of the leaks until June 15th when I could buy it in stores. Waiting for the album to drop was a lot harder than you can imagine - all the radio stations were playing leaks, every blog had download links, and all over twitter were the new "epic" Drake lines and verses. It was quite difficult. Anyways, back to June 15th, I got off of work and me and a co-worker rushed over to the South Street Seaport in Manhattan. It was insane how many people were there at that point. We somehow made our way to the middle of the crowd where we had a decent view - at this point I was still so siked!

30 minutes went by. 1 hour went by. An hour and a half went by. No Drake. And after the concert promoters tried to (unsuccessfully) calm  the crowd - people were getting impatient. I remember hearing the guy over the PA System saying "this isn't working" and I laughed - because I thought it was funny how someone with so much "authority" was feeling so helpless. It was funny to me! So time goes by and no announcements are being made - but they begin to take the set down. At this point people start cursing and throwing things (not that they weren't before) but it got pretty crazy.

There were two girls - standing right next to us who started fighting which began an all out brawl in the crowd and sent people running everywhere. This was like something from a movie! This was definitely my signal that we just shouldn't be there - so we bolted out. Or at least attempted to - it was so many people that it was hard to move through the crowd. 25,000 people when they were expecting 10,000 - crazy right?

Thank god we left when we did - as we turned around to look back where we came from - chairs, flower pots, glass bottles, plates - basically anything anyone could find was being thrown from a balcony down into the crowd and from the crowd up to the people on the balcony. Pure madness. I had never seen anything like it.

So this story didn't have a good ending - no Drake concert and by the time I got home (which took me a bit since I left my keys at the office) the music stores were closed - so no Drake CD either. The only good thing or thing that was pretty cool was that I made NY's Fox News! Out of 8 million people in a city - I found a way on TV - just strange! It was funny to see myself on TV and even funnier when I walked into work the next day and all my co-workers swarmed my desk asking if I was okay and that they had seen me on TV. It was comical. Any-who - Drake, no more free concerts okay? I'd much rather pay to see you than risk losing my life to save a few bucks. Just not worth it.

And if you don't have the Drake cd yet, go BUY it!

a week in review: Puerto Rican Day Parade

Unbelievable. I don't think I ever seen the amount of pride that I witnessed at the parade. Everyone, and I really do mean everyone, had something with the PR flag on it. Socks. Shoes. Shirts. Flags. Hats. Bikinis. Everything. Even people who weren't (or at least didn't outwardly appear to be) took part. It was absolutely nuts.
I walked by a man who told me, "Everybody is Puerto Rican today." He was telling the truth.

Give My Regards to Broadway.

This past week I was fortunate enough to go see my first BROADWAY show!!! WICKED. It was a-mazing. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect going into the show. Everyone rants and raves about how good the shows are - but just describing, does it no justice. These actors and actresses are so talented - it amazes me. I was in awe of their singing, I mean their vocal ability was just incredible. The costumes were so intricate and detailed oriented - the costume designers: well done! And the actual set - wow - how do they do it! I whole-heartedly recommend that everyone enjoy this great American past time at least once in their life - you won't regret it!

My favorite song from the show: Defying Gravity

And of course I had to . . . Give My Regards To Broadway

leadership.

I took a semi-leadership course today and I left there with these quotes in mind:

"It is not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."

"Innovation distinguish between leader and follower."

"The best way to predict the future is to create it."

"Leadership is something you never stop learning."

Fine Dining in Brooklyn Heights.

Spontaneity. Absolutely love it.

I came home from my first day of work (which was great by the way) and sprawled out on the couch - completely wiped out. It was a very long day. Travelled from Brooklyn to Midtown to Jersey back to Manhattan and finally home to Brooklyn. Exhausting. I tried to figure out what I was going to eat for dinner, because I can't eat anymore Chinese for like a month. As I'm getting continuously frustrated with my inability to decide what I'm going to eat - I hear a 'ding, ding' (my cell phone). One of my lovely new friends was going out to dine with her friends and invited me to come - so I joined!

I am so glad I went.

Dinner was great. Brooklyn Heights Wine Bar, was the name and the atmosphere was so real. That's how I would describe it, real.

I met some really cool people and after dinner was taken a couple blocks down to see one of the most amazing views ever. It was surreal! I can't believe I live in this place.

I'm happy. I feel good. I love my life.

Cleveland Needs You: "Please Stay Lebron"

This Lebron madness continues. This video had me crying, literally, its hilarious! I think Cleveland takes the cake with their plea for King James!

C'Mon Lebron!

You've got to admit that this whole "where's Lebron going?" phenomena is a bit out of hand, but it provides some real entertainment. NYC's Mayor Bloomberg has also joined the race to get King James in his city. Check this out!

B e a u t i f u l .

Thanks to a friend of mine Vivian Green's song has now entered my iTunes and is in heavy rotation.
Hold her when she wants to be held
Don't yell at her when she's only trying to love you
Take her to your favorite place more often than not
Dont take her kindness for weakness
'Cause I'm sure she'll love you a lot
Support her in all that she does
Don't tear her down, lift her up
'Cause thats the worst thing you can do to someone you love
Put her high on a pedestal and tell her when she looks beautiful

The [missing] Adventures. 2.

Armonk, NY. White Plains, NY. Westchester County, NY. This is where I spent my last week. Let me tell you, it is much different than NYC. Although its only about 40 minutes outside the city, it seems like it is a completely different world. It was absolutely gorgeous. Breath taking views filled with trees, lakes, and mountains. Beautiful. Relaxing. A-Mazing.

The [missing] Adventures. 1.

It's a crazy | busy last two weeks for me. I travelled home for Memorial Day weekend for US Lax try-outs which was a great experience. This was the first time EVER that I have done anything outside of my school lacrosse team - so it was an eye opening experience. I arrived to find hundreds of girls (all ages) playing lacrosse and hundreds more watching them. It was crazy!! I met a lot of cool people and got to play with and compete with some of the best players in the country which was unbelievable. I got to play with girls who I've played against many times in season - and it was cool to get to know them on a much more personal level than just knowing their tendencies and numbers! Our team name was "Sexy Six" - very clever, I know. And although we didn't have the best record - I'm proud to say that I and a few of my fellow Sexy Sixers have made it through to the final round of try outs which will be at the end of July! How cool - right? I never thought in a million years that trying out for the US Lacrosse team would be something I'd do. Funny how life pans out.
